Balletcore broke into the mainstream in late 2022, anchored by Miu Miu's Fall 2022 collection, which paired pointe-shoe-pink satin flats with cardigans and pleated skirts. The wardrobe pulls from rehearsal and performance equally: wrap-front cardigans, slim leotards under sheer skirts, tulle midi skirts, leg warmers slouched over loafers, ribbon-tied flats, pearl-strung buns. The dominant palette is pink and cream with black accents. The aesthetic shares DNA with Coquette (ribbons, bows, hyperfeminine) and Coastal Grandmother (cashmere, restraint), but is distinguished by its specific dance-studio vocabulary. Critics flagged its dark side — proximity to thinness culture — and the mainstream cooled by mid-2024, but the satin ballet flat itself became a perennial.
