About

Business Casual is the workplace dress register that sits between full corporate suiting and weekend casual — a code that emerged in late-1980s and 1990s American offices as Silicon Valley and 'casual Friday' culture loosened the suit-and-tie default. The wardrobe revolves around chinos, dress trousers, knit polos, button-down shirts (without a tie), unstructured blazers, knit dresses, midi skirts, loafers, low heels and polished sneakers. Patterns are subtle, colours run neutral with occasional muted accents, and the goal is 'looks deliberate but not dressed-up.' It is now the de facto dress code for most non-client-facing white-collar offices and a frequent reference point for Pinterest 'workwear' boards.

Not Business Professional — Business Casual drops the tie, allows knits and softer trousers; Business Professional means a full matched suit, white shirt, tie or hosiery and conservative shoes.
