Cayetana (sometimes 'cayetano' for the male equivalent) is a Spanish slang term for a young upper-class Madrileno or Andalusian, taking its name from the late Duchess of Alba, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, and from the long Spanish aristocratic tradition. As a fashion identifier, Cayetana describes a specific Spanish luxury preppy look — crisp white linen blouses with embroidered detail, tailored shorts or mid-length skirts, alpargatas (espadrilles) by Castaner, Loewe basket bags or Anagram crossbodies, gold chain belts, mantoncillo shawls, hair clipped back with a flower, and Ibiza or Marbella sun-coast styling. The aesthetic descends from the Spanish equestrian and bullfighting circuits, from the Sevilla Feria de Abril, and from the country-house culture of la pijeria (the Spanish posh set). It overlaps with Pijo (the broader Spanish preppy) and with Italian Summer / Coastal Grandmother, but carries specifically Spanish codes — the Loewe basket, the embroidered guayabera, the alpargatas — that distinguish it. TikTok has recently exported Cayetana styling to a global audience under tags like 'Spanish summer' and 'Madrid girl'.
