About

Coastal Cowgirl is a fashion aesthetic that emerged between spring and summer 2023 as a juxtaposition between Western and Nautical/Coastal styles. The look is described as 'the lovechild of Malibu and Montana — sandy neutrals meeting weathered leather, seashells beside cowboy boots'. It grew partly out of the Coastal Grandmother trend (relaxed minimalist seaside fashion in linen and neutrals) but added a wilder Western edge for younger audiences. Wardrobe-wise the look mixes Southern staples — denim, button-down shirts, flannel, Americana prints, cowboy boots, wide-brim hats, turquoise jewellery, bandanas — with romantic feminine details like eyelet, lace, broderie and floral prints. The colour palette skews lighter than traditional Western — heavy on white, cream, ivory, cool denim, soft tan and faded turquoise.

Not Cowboycore — Coastal Cowgirl is Western styling lightened with coastal/feminine elements; Cowboycore is full rodeo Western with deeper colour and grit.
