Crust Punk emerged in the UK in the early-to-mid 1980s out of the Bristol and Birmingham scenes — Amebix, Antisect, Hellbastard and Doom were the founding bands, fusing anarcho-punk politics with the heaviness of early extreme metal. The aesthetic codes the same DIY, anti-consumerist values into clothing: extensively patched and studded battle vests over filthy hoodies, raw or patched black denim crusted with grime, combat or steel-cap boots gaffer-taped to extend their lifespan, hand-poked stick-and-poke tattoos, dreadlocked or shaved hair, oversized circle-A patches, militant veganism patches and band-merch overload. The point is impermanence reversed — clothes are kept and repaired indefinitely, the patina of years on the road read as integrity. The scene still anchors squats, infoshops and DIY festivals from Berlin to Olympia.

Not Gutter Punk — Crust Punk is more politically rigorous and band-affiliated, anchored in anarcho-punk and crustcore music; Gutter Punk overlaps in dress but skews more train-hopping street-life than scene politics.
