Mob Wife went viral in January 2024 when TikTok creator Kayla Trivieri declared 'clean girl is out, mob wife era is in'. The hashtag cleared 190 million views inside weeks. The aesthetic mines 1980s and 1990s Italian-American visual culture — The Sopranos, Goodfellas, Real Housewives of New Jersey — for a wardrobe of fur coats (often faux), animal print, leather pants, sequined slip dresses, square-tip French manicures and stacks of gold chains worn over a low-cut top. Hair is teased and big. Eye makeup is smoked. Lips are matte red or glossy nude. The mood is power as ornament. As a counterpoint to the mid-2020s vogue for 'quiet luxury', Mob Wife was an explicit rebuke — wealth signalled loudly, with a wink.
