Royalcore romanticises Western European royalty visual culture from the Baroque, Rococo and Regency eras. It crystallised on Tumblr and Pinterest in the late 2010s and exploded with Bridgerton's Netflix premiere in December 2020. The wardrobe goes deep on opulent fabrics: silk taffeta ballgowns, brocade corsets, tulle layers, embroidered bodices, cape coats, lace gloves, velvet capes, jewelled belts. Accessories trend ornamental and fantastical: tiaras, crowns, sceptres, signet rings, pearl drops, brooches, pocket watches. The aesthetic is broader than strict Regencycore — it incorporates fairytale castle imagery, Disney-princess theatricality, Marie Antoinette references, and Game of Thrones-Sansa-Stark embroidered gowns. Royalcore is unapologetically maximalist; the wearer is dressing for a coronation, not the school run.

Not Regencycore — Royalcore is broader Western royal fantasy (Baroque ballgowns, tiaras, capes); Regencycore is specifically early-1800s empire-waist Bridgerton.
