Do I have to sign up?

Accepted Answer

Not for your first ten. Once you've used those, the tool asks for a quick sign-up (email or Google) to unlock 50 more per month. Sign-up creates a Supabase account but nothing else — no Stripe, no trial, no auto-charge.

Question 3

What file types and sizes work?

JPG, PNG, GIF and WebP. Up to 5 MB. The tool downsamples to 1024×1024 internally — uploading larger files won't give you a higher-resolution result, just a slower upload. If you need higher-resolution output for print or high-DPI use, that's a paid feature in the Shopfront app.

Why does the edge look slightly off on hair or lace?

We use the Portrait model variant, which has the cleanest edges on people-in-outfit and hair detail. There's still a faint halo possible on extreme detail (curly hair, fine lace, fishnet) — that's inherent to single-pass segmentation. For pure flatlays or product-only shots where edge fidelity matters more than hair handling, switching to the General Use or Matting variant gives marginally better results — that's a planned per-upload toggle in v2.

Can I use these images commercially?

Yes. You retain full rights to your input image and the output. Shopfront does not claim any rights in your photos, does not train on them, and does not share them with third parties beyond the segmentation service that processes them in memory.

Question 6

Does Shopfront keep my photos?

Accepted Answer

No. Shopfront's infrastructure doesn't store your photos — they pass through to the segmentation service and the cleaned PNG comes back to your browser. The result is briefly hosted on the segmentation service's CDN so your browser can fetch it; the link expires within a few days. We don't keep copies, we don't log the image bytes, and we don't train on your photos.

How does this compare to PhotoRoom or remove.bg?

Quality is comparable for product photography — BiRefNet has been at parity with the commercial options since 2024. The differences are in the cap (Shopfront: 60 free per month with no card, vs PhotoRoom's 5/day or remove.bg's 50/month at 0.25 megapixels) and the workflow integration. If you only need to remove backgrounds occasionally, any of these tools will do the job; if you cross-list across multiple marketplaces, the Shopfront app does this automatically on every listing.
