About

Bodikon (a Japanese contraction of 'body conscious') is the Tokyo dance-floor style that dominated the bubble-economy years from roughly 1988 to 1992. The look pulled directly from late-80s Western body-con designers like Azzedine Alaia and Herve Leger and reinterpreted them on the floors of legendary Roppongi disco Juliana's Tokyo: stretch knit mini dresses, plunging necklines, structured pencil cuts, gold accessories and high stilettos. Bodikon wearers were often Office Ladies in their twenties spending bubble-era salaries on a single night out. The aesthetic is the direct ancestor of Agejo and continues to be referenced in Japanese fashion media, especially during the 2020s Heisei Retro revival.

Not Agejo — Bodikon is the late-80s bubble-economy original with cleaner disco silhouettes and Office Lady wearers; Agejo is the late-2000s Kabukicho host-club evolution with feathered hair and rhinestone maximalism.
