About

Decora is a Japanese Harajuku style derived from 'decoration', characterised by an explosion of accessories — there is no such thing as 'too many' accessories in Decora. The style is less about silhouette and more about layered colour and ornamentation: rainbow hair clips stacked across the head, dozens of plastic bracelets up each arm, layered necklaces with character pendants, stickers on the face, knee-high socks with novelty graphics, oversized t-shirts often featuring Sanrio, Strawberry Shortcake, Hello Kitty, Care Bears, Pokémon or Smurfs characters. Decora's peak was the mid-2000s in Tokyo's Harajuku district, but it remains visible there and has international communities.

Not Kidcore — Decora is a structured Japanese Harajuku style with DIY accessory rules; Kidcore is a Western internet aesthetic of nostalgic 90s kid graphics.
