About
Jirai Danshi (literally 'landmine boy') is the masculine counterpart to Jirai Kei, taking shape on Japanese social media around 2021 alongside the toyoko kid scene clustered around Tokyo's Kabukicho district. The term references jirai (landmine) in the same emotional sense — a fragile-aggressive, melancholy presentation. The wardrobe layers black, white and accent red: oversized button-down shirts, Y2K-style hoodies, slim black trousers or wide pants, layered silver chains, chokers, ear cuffs, dyed-black bowl-cut or mid-length hair, and either platform shoes or chunky sneakers. The look has clear overlaps with Korean idol styling and with Visual Kei subculture and is closely tied to host-club aesthetics on the lower end of Kabukicho.
Not Salon Kei — Jirai Danshi is the toyoko-kid Kabukicho landmine-boy aesthetic with melancholy framing and Y2K layering; Salon Kei is the polished mid-2000s hair-salon-staff look with sharp suits and asymmetric cuts.
