Jirai Kei (literally 'landmine style') is a Japanese fashion subculture that emerged through the late 2010s and went broadly mainstream in 2021–2022 alongside the rise of Kabukicho's toyoko kids and the cultural visibility of mental-health discourse on Japanese social media. The name refers to the slang phrase jirai onna ('landmine woman') — a girl who looks delicate and sweet but is emotionally explosive. The wardrobe is built around contrasting black and baby pink: ribboned blouses, pleated mini skirts, oversized cardigans, long bow-tied twin pigtails, mary janes or platform loafers, oversized plush bag charms (often Kuromi or Sanrio characters), and exaggerated under-eye blush. Brands like Liz Lisa, Ank Rouge and Pink House anchor the look alongside Korean fashion imports.
