Y2K Cyber (or Y2K Futurism) refers to the 1998-2003 retrofuturist visual movement built around the millennial bug, the early dot-com boom and the techno-utopian fantasy of The Matrix, Aaliyah videos and TLC's 'No Scrubs'. The wardrobe leans into reflective and synthetic materials: metallic puffer jackets, vinyl trousers, mesh tops over crop tops, halter tops with built-in chokers, butterfly hair clips, low-slung cargos in nylon, wraparound sunglasses, kitten-heel mules in metallic silver. Beauty is frosted: lilac and silver eyeshadow, sticky lip gloss, glitter, baby pink. The colour palette runs cool — chrome, ice blue, lilac, silver, holographic — punctuated by acid green or hot pink. Hype Williams's fish-eye music videos and early Matrix-era CGI define the visual register.
