About

E-Girl (short for 'electronic girl') crystallised in the late 2010s on TikTok and Instagram as the visual signature of an extremely-online young woman fluent in anime, K-pop, gaming, SoundCloud rap and emo-revival music. The wardrobe is layered grunge: black tees layered under graphic ringer tees, plaid pleated skirts with fishnets and shorts, oversized cardigans, chunky chains, chokers, arm-warmers, Demonia or Dr. Martens platform boots, mini backpacks. Hair is a defining marker: split-dyed (one half black, one half pink/blue/green), pigtails or space buns, blunt straight-across bangs, and hairclips. Makeup is the most identifiable element — heavy winged eyeliner, faux-sickly red eyeshadow under the eyes, horizontal blush across the nose, painted hearts or stars on cheekbones.

Not Mall Goth — E-Girl is internet-native and anime-fluent (TikTok, Twitch, K-pop); Mall Goth is the 2000s suburban shopping-mall predecessor (Hot Topic, nu metal).
