Depop Fees in Australia: What Sellers Need to Know in 2026

Selling on Depop from Australia? The fee structure is the same globally, but there are a few AU-specific details around currency, GST, and payment processing that affect your bottom line. Here's the full picture.

Depop's Fee Breakdown for Australian Sellers

Every time you make a sale on Depop, two fees come out:

  • Depop commission: 10% of the sale price
  • Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 AUD per transaction

These fees are calculated in your local currency. If you list an item for $80 AUD, the fees are calculated on that $80 AUD amount.

Example: Selling a $100 AUD Item

Let's say you sell a vintage band tee for $100 AUD:

  • Depop commission (10%): $10.00 AUD
  • Payment processing (2.9% + $0.30): $3.20 AUD
  • Total fees: $13.20 AUD
  • Your payout: $86.80 AUD

You keep about 87% of the sale price on a $100 item. On cheaper items (say $20-30), the flat $0.30 fee takes a bigger percentage, so your effective fee rate is higher.

GST and Tax Obligations

Depop's 10% commission is a platform fee, not a tax. But as an Australian seller, you need to be aware of GST (Goods and Services Tax) obligations:

  • Under $75,000 annual turnover: You're generally not required to register for GST. Most casual resellers fall into this bracket.
  • Over $75,000 annual turnover: You'll need an ABN and GST registration. You'd then need to account for 10% GST on your sales.

Depop itself collects GST on its commission fee for Australian transactions. This is already factored into the 10% you see deducted. You don't pay GST on top of Depop's fee.

If you're earning significant income from reselling, it's worth speaking to an accountant or checking the ATO's guidance on selling goods online.

Shipping Costs

Depop doesn't offer prepaid shipping labels in Australia the way it does in the US. Australian sellers arrange their own shipping, typically through Australia Post.

Standard parcel post rates apply. For reference, a 500g satchel within Australia costs around $9-12 AUD depending on size and destination. Many AU sellers build shipping into their asking price or charge a flat shipping fee per item.

Shipping costs are not subject to Depop's commission. If a buyer pays $15 for the item and $8 for shipping, Depop only takes 10% of the $15.

Payouts in AUD

Depop pays Australian sellers directly in AUD via the Depop Payments system. Funds are typically available within a few business days of the buyer confirming receipt (or automatically after a set period).

There are no currency conversion fees for domestic AU sales. If you sell to an international buyer, the buyer pays in their currency and Depop handles the conversion, but be aware that exchange rates and conversion fees may apply.

Tips for Australian Depop Sellers

  • Price with fees in mind: If you need $50 in your pocket, list at around $58 to cover the ~13% in combined fees.
  • Factor in shipping: Australian buyers are used to paying for shipping, but competitive pricing helps. Consider offering free shipping on higher-value items and building the cost into the price.
  • Track your income: Keep records of all sales and expenses. If you're approaching $75,000 in annual turnover, you'll need to think about ABN and GST registration.
  • Use calculated pricing: Don't just eyeball it. Small fee miscalculations add up over hundreds of sales.
