About
Bloghouse named the cluster of MP3 blogs (Hipster Runoff, Gorilla vs Bear, Discodust) and labels (Ed Banger, Kitsune, Institubes) that powered a 2005 to 2010 dance-punk wave around Justice, Boys Noize, MSTRKRFT, and SebastiAn. The wardrobe became inseparable from Mark 'The Cobrasnake' Hunter's flash-photography blog: ripped tights, American Apparel disco pants, vintage band tees, cropped denim jackets, hair-cross necklaces, plastic Wayfarers, and a permanent thin layer of sweat. Carles's July 2008 Hipster Runoff post defined the term and quickly killed the scene through over-articulation. The aesthetic was rebranded in 2021 as 'indie sleaze' and drove a wave of Y2K-2010 thrift demand on Depop, with American Apparel basics, ripped denim shorts, and Crystal Castles tees pulling fast-rising resale. The 2024 to 2025 bloghouse revival around DJ Heartstring and Salute has put the original silhouette back into rotation.
Not new rave — bloghouse is the broader Anglophone music-blog scene, while new rave is the specifically British 2006 to 2008 indie-rave crossover at its centre.
