Boujee (an alternate spelling of bougie, shortened from bourgeois) describes flashy, unapologetic luxury-flexing — most often associated with Black American style and culture. The 1960s African American English origin used 'bougie' to critique upwardly mobile Black people seen as putting on airs; the 2017 Migos hit 'Bad and Boujee' reframed the term as a celebration of newly rich, successful Black people enjoying high-class life. The fashion vocabulary is statement luxury: Hermès Birkin and Kelly bags, Gucci, Chanel, Versace, Cartier love bracelets, Louis Vuitton, Tom Ford, Dior. The overall mood is bold, elegant and unapologetic — high-fashion meets personal flair, where every piece is chosen to register monetary value. The term carries a distinctly Black American socioeconomic context that should be respected when discussed by people outside that community.

Not Quiet Luxury — Boujee is loud, logo-forward, brand-flexing celebration of wealth; Quiet Luxury is its inverse, deliberately removing logos in favour of subtle craftsmanship.
