Dreamcore is a surreal internet aesthetic that emerged in the early 2020s, focused on visuals inspired by dreams — symbolic, illogical, nostalgic and slightly unsettling but ultimately comforting. It's frequently confused with its sibling Weirdcore, but Dreamcore aims for soft surreal comfort while Weirdcore aims for confusion and alienation. The aesthetic draws on liminal-space imagery (empty rooms, fluorescent corridors, abandoned playgrounds) but pushes brighter and more colourful — pastel skies, surreal landscapes, rainbows, clouds replacing walls or floors, Y2K-era CGI elements. As a fashion aesthetic, Dreamcore is thinner than its image-aesthetic identity, but it does have a wardrobe register: oversized soft-knit jumpers in pastel and pale tones, mixed textures, cloud or sky prints, flowy fabrics, kawaii-adjacent accessories with surreal twists.
