Granola (or Granola Girl) is the lifestyle-and-fashion aesthetic of an outdoorsy young person whose weekends are spent hiking, camping, climbing, kayaking or otherwise off-grid. The wardrobe is functional and earth-toned: Patagonia fleeces, flannel shirts, Baggies shorts, hiking boots, Chacos or Tevas, knit beanies, woven friendship bracelets, sterling-silver rings and a Fjällräven Kånken or REI co-op backpack. The lifestyle layer is significant — sustainability, environmental awareness, vegetarianism, outdoor sports, conservation — and the aesthetic functions as much as a self-identification as a wardrobe.
