About

Health Goth is a fashion movement that emerged from a 2013 Portland Facebook community founded by Mike Grabarek, Jeremy Scott (the Magic Fades duo) and artist Chris Cantino, fusing high-performance gym wear with goth and minimalist sensibilities. The look is rendered almost exclusively in monochrome black, white and grey, built from technical fabrics — neoprene, mesh, compression, technical knits — and silhouettes that lean oversized hoodies, elongated tees, leggings and high-top sneakers. Sonically and visually it draws from industrial techno, synthwave and dystopian film (Gesaffelstein, HEALTH, Nine Inch Nails), and philosophically it inverts the fragility of traditional goth subcultures: the body becomes a vessel of discipline rather than a rebellion of emaciation. Adidas Y-3, Nike, Rick Owens DRKSHDW and Acronym anchor the canon.

Not Techwear — Health Goth is fitness-coded with compression and gymwear silhouettes; Techwear is urban-survival cargos, harnesses and shells with no gym component.
