About

Horrorcore is the horror-themed strain of hip-hop, born from the early-90s collision of Geto Boys, the Gravediggaz, Three 6 Mafia, the early Insane Clown Posse Dark Carnival mythos and Brotha Lynch Hung's California underground. The visual language pulls slasher-film references into hip-hop wardrobe: hockey masks (Jason Voorhees), bandanas, baggy black hoodies, oversized denim jeans, pentagram and inverted cross chains, blood-spatter print tees, balaclavas, ICP face paint for the Juggalo branch, gold grills, tattoos of demons and serial killers. ICP's Juggalo subculture is the largest visible community — Faygo soda, Hatchetman pendants, Gathering of the Juggalos festival — but Horrorcore as an aesthetic stretches wider through underground rap and Memphis-revival phonk in the 2020s.

Not Horror Punk — Horrorcore is hip-hop with horror imagery, baggy streetwear and oversized denim; Horror Punk is punk-rock with horror imagery, leather jackets and devilock haircuts.
