About

The Industrial aesthetic developed alongside industrial music from the late 1970s onward — Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, Test Dept, Einstürzende Neubauten and the wider Industrial Records orbit. The visual language pulls from the actual industrial environments the music sampled: factories, refineries, military hardware, abandoned plants, surveillance imagery. Wardrobe codes: factory-issue boilersuits and coveralls, riveted leather, military webbing and harnesses, gas masks and respirators worn as accessories, rubber and PVC, work boots, hard hats, grey-and-rust palettes, shaved or short-cropped hair. The aesthetic predates and underlies both Rivethead and Industrial Goth — those two narrowed it into specific club-floor subcultures. It cycles through high fashion every couple of years (Rick Owens, Boris Bidjan Saberi, Demobaza, Yuima Nakazato).

Not Rivethead — the broader Industrial aesthetic sits across multiple wardrobe traditions including high-fashion industrial-couture; Rivethead is its specific dance-club subculture with a defined uniform.
