About

Skater fashion is a function-led aesthetic shaped by skateboarding culture's physical demands: loose-fitting clothing for full range of motion, durable construction for repeated falls, slip-resistant flat-soled shoes for board feel. The look crystallised in 1970s and 80s California, with Southern California–based skaters adopting Vans and Dickies for utility. By the 1990s the visual codes were locked in: relaxed-fit jeans (often Dickies work pants or cargo pants), graphic tees featuring skate brands and bands, layered hoodies and crewnecks, flannels worn open over tees, beanies and snapback caps, and Vans, Nike SB or Converse footwear. Today the look spans low-end thrift to luxury via Palace, Supreme, Aimé Leon Dore.

Not Streetwear — Skater is function-led and built for actual skating; Streetwear has evolved beyond skate into hip-hop and luxury crossover.
