Buchon (feminine: buchona) is a northern Mexican fashion identity associated with narco-culture wealth, primarily in Sinaloa, Sonora, and Jalisco from the early 2000s onward. The look is unapologetically loud and luxury-driven: Versace baroque-print shirts, fitted Cuban-collar shirts, designer logo belts with massive gold buckles (Hermes, Versace, Gucci), pointed-toe ostrich-leather Cuadra boots, dark designer denim, gold cuban chains, Rolex or Hublot watches, and aviator sunglasses. The female buchona variant adds bedazzled tight tops, BBL silhouettes, French-tip nails, lip filler, and long-extension hair. The aesthetic has been canonised through narcocorrido music videos, through Netflix series (Narcos: Mexico, Senora Acero), and through TikTok creators in northern Mexico and the southwestern US who celebrate or parody the codes. It is closely related to American Cholo style and to broader Latin-American narco-aesthetic, but Buchon is specifically the wealthier, designer-luxe register.
