Italian Sprezzatura is the menswear philosophy and aesthetic codified by Renaissance author Baldassare Castiglione in The Book of the Courtier — defined as 'a certain nonchalance, to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought.' Translated into 20th- and 21st-century Italian tailoring, it manifests as deconstructed jackets with less-padded shoulders, more pronounced lapels (often peak), body-hugging silhouettes, partially unbuttoned dress shirts, deliberately loose neckties, folded collars and the calculated mismatching of formal pieces with everyday staples. Brands like Brioni, Kiton, Brunello Cucinelli, Boglioli and Tagliatore anchor the contemporary expression. The look is paradoxical — the more deliberately you cultivate sprezzatura, the less authentic it becomes — and is the backbone of Italian-coded Pitti Uomo and 'menswear influencer' style.
