Opium (also called Vamp) is the fashion-and-musical aesthetic that emerged in the early 2020s from the artistic direction of Playboi Carti and his record label of the same name (founded 2019). The name refers exclusively to the label, not the substance. Visually it fuses avant-garde high-fashion darkwear (Rick Owens, Balenciaga) with the rebellious iconography of 1970s punk and black metal, marking a sharp break from 2010s colourful designer streetwear toward a monochromatic, gothic, silhouette-focused look. The 'Opium uniform' is almost exclusively black, plays with extreme proportions to create non-human silhouettes (extremely cropped tight tops or massively oversized draped pieces), and pairs them with waxed denim, leather trousers, wide-leg cargos and heavy brutalist boots. Musically it's tied to Rage trap — heavy distorted synthesizers, erratic vocals — and culturally to a goth-rap-and-vampire-mystique fanbase.
