About

Uchuu-kei (literally 'space style') emerged in mid-2010s Harajuku as a sci-fi-coded evolution of decora and fairy-kei, swapping pastel innocence for cosmic spectacle. The wardrobe is built around galaxy and nebula prints, holographic vinyl skirts and jackets, iridescent PVC bags, planet and UFO jewellery, and chunky metallic platform sneakers. Hair is often dyed lavender, silver or aqua, and makeup leans on glitter and metallic eyeshadow. The look was codified by Harajuku brands like ACDC RAG, 6%DOKIDOKI and Listen Flavor, and was photographed extensively in FRUiTS magazine's later issues. It overlaps with magical-girl and decora but is distinguished by its specifically space/cosmic motif palette rather than generic pastel cute.

Not Decora — Uchuu Kei is the specifically space/cosmic-themed Harajuku style with galaxy prints and holographic vinyl; Decora is the broader Harajuku style of layered hair clips and rainbow accessories without the sci-fi framing.
