Bondage Fashion is the broader fashion movement that takes design language from BDSM and fetish wear — straps, harnesses, buckles, zips that don't open, latex and rubber, lace-up corsetry, restraint detailing — and applies it to garments meant for non-fetish contexts. Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren codified the look at their 1974 SEX boutique, where they sold fetishwear to underground sexual subcultures and proto-punks alike, then rolled it into the iconic punk wardrobe of bondage trousers (with zips, straps and bumflap), straitjacket-detailed shirts and Sex Pistols' graphic shock. The vocabulary has since recurred constantly — Helmut Lang, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rick Owens, Vetements, contemporary Mugler — and remains the foundation of club, goth and hardcore fashion.

Not Fetish Goth — Bondage Fashion is the broader fashion application of BDSM design language across mainstream contexts; Fetish Goth is the specifically goth-subcultural club expression with PVC, ponytails and rave-club crossover.
