The short version: no more 10% selling fee for Australian sellers
From 22 July 2026, Depop is removing its 10% selling fee for sellers in Australia. It is the same change Depop already made in the US (July 2024) and the UK. Australia was one of the last markets still paying the old commission, and now it is catching up.
Here is the one-line summary before the detail:
- Until 22 July 2026: you pay a 10% selling fee on every sale, plus payment processing.
- From 22 July 2026: the 10% selling fee is gone. Payment processing still applies, and Depop adds a new marketplace fee that your buyer pays at checkout — not you.
On the seller side, this is straightforwardly good news: more of every sale stays with you.
What actually changes on 22 July
| Fee | Until 22 July 2026 | From 22 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Selling fee (you pay) | 10% of the item price | $0 |
| Payment processing (you) | ~2.6% + $0.30 per sale | ~2.6% + $0.30 per sale* |
| Marketplace fee (buyer) | — | up to 5% + up to $1, paid by buyer* |
| Boosted listings (opt-in) | 8% if a boosted item sells | 8% if a boosted item sells* |
* Depop has not published new Australian processing or boost rates for this change, and the buyer marketplace fee is quoted as “up to” a ceiling. Depop’s US processing fee is higher than Australia’s current rate, and fees tend to get revised when the structure changes — so treat these as “confirm on the day” numbers.
What you keep on a $100 sale
Right now, a $100 item (before your own postage) costs about $12.90 in Depop fees: the $10 selling fee plus roughly $2.90 in processing. You keep around $87.10.
After 22 July, the same $100 sale loses only the processing fee — roughly $2.90 — so you would keep about $97.10. That is an extra ~$10 on a $100 order, and it scales with your prices.
If Depop revises the Australian processing rate on the day, that after-figure shifts a little. The Depop Fee Calculator always uses the current numbers, so run your own price points through it.
The catch buyers will notice: a new marketplace fee
The selling fee does not simply vanish — Depop is moving part of it to the buyer. From 22 July, Australian buyers pay a marketplace fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1 at checkout (excluding tax and postage).
This does not touch your payout. It does raise the total your buyer sees, which is worth remembering: the price on your listing is no longer quite the price they pay. If you sell across several platforms, factor it into how your Depop prices compare from the buyer’s side.
Do you need to relist to get the 0% fee?
Possibly, and this is the one thing worth acting on. When Depop removed the US selling fee, it applied to new listings first, and sellers with older listings reported still being charged until they edited and re-saved them. Depop has not spelled out how the Australian change handles existing listings.
Until it does, the safe move is to refresh your active listings shortly after 22 July — a quick edit-and-save, or a relist — so they are all on the new zero-fee terms. If you have hundreds of listings, that is exactly the kind of bulk job Shopfront is built for: manage and relist your whole Depop catalogue from one place instead of tapping through the app item by item.
We will update this section as soon as Depop confirms the mechanics for Australia.
Should you drop your prices?
You do not have to, and there is a case for not rushing. Two things to weigh:
- You are keeping more per sale, not being asked to charge less. Nothing forces a price change; the extra margin can simply be yours.
- Expect more competition. When the US and UK dropped selling fees, listings jumped 30–45%. Australia is already Depop’s fastest-growing market, and cheaper selling tends to pull in more sellers. More listings means more competition for the same buyers, so the sharper move is usually to stay competitive on price and lean on good photos, accurate sizing and fast dispatch.
The buyer-side marketplace fee cuts the other way: buyers now pay a little more at checkout, so raising your prices on top of that can cost you sales. If in doubt, hold your prices and let the lower fees widen your margin.
Boosted listings are still separate
Boost — Depop’s optional promoted-listings feature — is not part of this change. If you boost a listing and it sells, Depop still takes its Boost cut (currently 8% in Australia). Worth flagging: Depop raised the Boost fee from 8% to 12% for US and UK sellers, so there is a chance Australia follows. Boost is entirely opt-in. If you never use it, none of this applies.
What about GST?
Removing the selling fee does not change your tax position. Two points:
- Depop charged GST on its 10% commission for Australian sales. No commission means no GST on a commission, but that was always Depop’s fee, not a tax you could claim back as a casual seller.
- The $75,000 turnover threshold for GST registration is unchanged. Most casual resellers sit well under it. If you run Depop as a business and are approaching it, that is an ABN-and-GST conversation with an accountant.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Depop take from a sale in Australia now?
Until 22 July 2026, it is 10% of the item price plus payment processing (about 2.6% + $0.30). From 22 July, the 10% selling fee is gone and you only pay processing on the seller side.
What is the Depop marketplace fee, and do I pay it?
It is a fee of up to 5% of the item price plus up to $1, introduced for Australian buyers from 22 July 2026. Your buyer pays it at checkout — it does not come out of your payout.
Do I need to relist my items to get the 0% fee?
Depop has not confirmed this for Australia. When the US selling fee was removed, older listings sometimes kept the old fee until they were edited and re-saved, so refreshing or relisting your active items after 22 July is the safe bet.
Does Depop still charge a payment processing fee?
Yes. Processing (currently around 2.6% + $0.30 per sale in Australia) runs through Depop Payments and stays. It is charged on the full transaction — item plus shipping plus any tax.
Is this because eBay bought Depop?
eBay announced a deal to buy Depop from Etsy in February 2026, but at the time of writing it has not completed. This fee change is Depop’s own, in line with what it already did in the US and UK.
Will my buyers pay more?
Slightly. The new marketplace fee is added to the buyer’s checkout total, so the same listing costs them a bit more than before, even though your payout goes up.
The bottom line
For Australian sellers, 22 July 2026 is a clear win: the 10% selling fee disappears, and you keep close to the full sale price minus processing. Two things to actually do — refresh your listings after the change so they are on the new terms, and check your numbers rather than assuming. Run any item through the Depop Fee Calculator to see your exact payout. And if the switch has you rethinking where you sell, our eBay vs Depop breakdown compares the two for Australian sellers.
